Mounting the microphone higher off the ground can help reduce insect noise.

Microphone extension cables are used for mounting configurations where having the microphone directly on the detector is not suitable. Especially when recording full spectrum, mounting the microphone away from reflective surfaces can help produce better recordings by reducing echos. Also mounting the microphone higher off the ground can help reduce insect noise.
