Slope

May be used as a qualitative descriptor for the pulse slope (e.g. “steep” or “flat”) or measured (eg. Characteristic Slope)

Smax

The maximum amount of slope occurring over 2 to 5 ZC dots within the pulse, relating to the steepest part of the pulse.

Smin

The minimum amount of slope occurring over 2 to 5 ZC dots within the pulse, relating to the flattest part of the pulse.

Social calling

In addition to their echolocation signals, bats also produce ultrasonic and audible social calls that serve as a means of communication and convey social information. These social calls are different from typical echolocation calls. Bats commonly emit social calls when near a roost, during periods when sub-adults are learning to fly or forage, or when […]

Spectrogram

A visual representation of a full spectrum file which graphs frequency (y axis) over time (x axis) whilst displaying intensity with colour mapping.

Tail

A frequency modulated sweep after the body at the end of a call. May drop in frequency (‘downsweeping’) or increase in frequency (‘upsweeping’).

TBCS

Time Between Call Starts; the time from the start of one pulse until the start of the next pulse.

Tc

The time from the start of the call to the characteristic section, measured in milliseconds (ms).

Tk

The time from the start of the call to the knee, measured in milliseconds (ms).

Trigger

A set of sounds characteristics that pass a criteria defined by the user
