You can update the firmware on your Swift using an SD card or via Anabat Insight.
Method 1 - Using an SD Card (recommended)
Your Anabat Swift is easily updated using an SD card. Simply download the update file using this link and copy it to the root directly on an SD card. Make sure the file is named swift.adx. You can use the same SD card to update multiple Swifts.
Insert the SD card and fresh batteries into your Swift then power it on. Ensure there isn't a second SD card in the Swift. After a short time a message will appear: "Swift update x.x available. Would you like to update?". Press the "Yes" to start the update. Do not remove the batteries or power off the detector while the update is being installed. The red Mode lights will flash in sequence while the update is being installed. Once the flashing is complete, your Swift will restart with the new firmware. You may get a message about a new "bootloader available", if so please proceed with this update by pressing on the "Upgrade" button.
If the update message doesn’t appear after inserting the SD card your Swift may already have the latest version installed or the file wasn’t found on the SD card (make sure it is named swift.adx). Check your currently installed firmware version in the Status screen on your Swift to see if it is the latest version. Alternatively, your Swift may have a very old firmware version that does not support SD card updates. If this is the case you will need to follow Method 2 below.
Method 2 - Using Anabat Insight and a USB cable (if SD card method doesn’t work)
If you haven't used your computer to update your Swift previously, you will need to follow Step 1 below to install the necessary software on your PC. If you've already done this before, skip ahead Step 2.
If you haven’t updated your Swift before, you will need to install the Anabat Insight software as follows:
For Windows PCs, click here to download and run the following program to install the Anabat Swift USB Driver for Windows. Mac users don't need to install this driver.
Next, click on the following links download and run the installer for Anabat Insight to match your Operating System version.
Anabat Insight for 64 bit versions of Windows 10, 8, & 7
Anabat Insight for Mac
Ensure you are connected to the internet. Run Anabat Insight and install any Insight updates that may be available. This will be indicated by a green bar near the top of the program window. Ensure the Swift's battery holder is fitted with fresh batteries.
At the top of the Insight screen, click on the menu that says "Devices". You should see "Swift" under this menu. Click on "Swift". If you don't see this then you may have an old firmware version that requires an extra step. Please perform the "Additional Step for Old Firmware versions" listed below and then repeat step 3.
A window will appear and display your current firmware version and the latest version available from Titley Scientific. Press the "Download" button to download the new firmware to your computer. Once downloaded, you can press the "Start" button to install the new firmware on your Swift. Once complete, the text "Finished." will appear.
Once the installation is complete, remove the batteries and re-fit them to restart your Swift with the new firmware. You may get a message about a new "bootloader available", if so please proceed with this update by pressing on the "Upgrade" button
*Additional Step for Old Firmware versions
This step may be required before step 3 if you have a particularly old firmware version. Please follow the steps below and then resume the above procedure at step 3.
1. Remove the battery holder from your Swift.
2. Hold down the power button (in the centre above the screen) while re-inserting the batteries. Make sure to hold the button down for a few more seconds after getting the batteries in place. The screen on the Swift will remain black. This is a special step for this firmware update only and won't be needed in the future.
If your Swift fails to turn on after the update, try removing the main battery pack and the clock battery (coin cell) for a few minutes. Reinstall the batteries and then try again.
The Anabat Express is updated via the Anabat Toolbox program. This operates on Microsoft Windows only.
Download and install Anabat Toolbox from https://www.titley-scientific.com/downloads/firmware-software. Close Anabat Toolbox before completing Step 2.
Turn on your detector and connect the USB cable from the detector to the PC. Your PC will automatically install the driver for the Anabat Express. Please wait until this is completed, then open Anabat Toolbox, your Anabat Express should automatically be detected. If you have previously installed the driver, you can open Anabat Toolbox straight away.
While your computer is connected to the internet, Anabat Toolbox will automatically search for updates. When you update the Anabat Toolbox software this will automatically contain new firmware upgrades. If a firmware upgrade is available, the firmware version will be highlighted in orange and there will be an option to Upgrade Now. Click this button and follow the prompts.
If there are no new upgrades, the firmware version will be highlighted in green.

Two squares will scroll across the display while the update is being installed and then the detector will restart. If you don’t see a prompt for the update you may already have the latest version installed or the update file is corrupted. Check your currently installed firmware version in the Status screen on your Scout to see if it is the latest version.
CHORUS and EXPRESS FS
The Chorus and ExpressFS firmware is updated using an SD card with the update copied onto it.
Download the Chorus update file or the ExpressFS update file as appropriate. Copy it to the root directory (i.e. not in any folder) on an SD card. Make sure the file is named chorus.adx for the Chorus update and update.adx for the ExpressFS. You can use the same SD card to update multiple recorders.
Insert the SD card and fresh batteries into your device and then turn it on.
For the Chorus; an on-screen message will appear after a few moments: Update available. Select ✓ (left soft key) to start the update.
The ExpressFS will automatically start the update after you turn it on.
Do not remove the batteries or power off the recorder while the update is being installed. The Recording Mode LEDs will cycle to indicate the update is occurring and the unit will restart upon completion. If this message does not appear then the update file wasn’t copied onto the card correctly or the firmware is already up to date.
You can now delete the update file from the SD card or use the card again to update several devices.
Please note the device will not update firmware if a low battery warning is displayed.
